Red Heart Classic Worsted Weight Yarn:
·         28 yards Color A (#339/Mid Brown)
·         44 yards Color B (#246/Sea Coral)
·         33 yards Color C (#334/Tan)
·         22 yards Color D (#579/Light Lavender)
·         55 yards Color E (#689/Forest Green)

Crochet hook size G/6-4.00mm
Yarn Needle (for working in ends)
Polyester fiberfill.

GAUGE:
7 single crochet X 7 rows = 2” square.

PATTERN NOTES:

The Sides are worked in one piece, with the Corners added on at the end. The Top and Bottom are worked separately and then crocheted onto the Sides.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

The chain-1 at the beginning of the rows DOES NOT count as a stitch.

When changing colors, work with current color until 1 stitch remains, change to new color on the last yarn over when working the remaining stitch. Work with changed color until another color change is indicated.

The chain-2 at the beginning of a row counts as the 1st stitch. When starting a row with a chain-2 do not work in the 1st stitch of that row.

SIDES:

SIDE 1:

With CA ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs across.

Rows 2 – 19: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Row 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across changing to CB. Fasten off CA ONLY




SIDE 2:

Note: (cca) the dropped color after a color change unless otherwise instructed.

Row 21: (Right Side Row): Ch 1, turn. Working in blo for this row only, work 1 sc in blo of each of the next 20 sc.

Row 22: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc changing to CC, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc changing to CB, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc changing to CC, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc changing to CB, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc changing to CC, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc changing to CB (ccf), 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc.

Row 41: Ch 1, turn. Working in blo for this row only, work 1 sc in blo of each of the 20 sc across.

Rows 42 – 59: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.


Row 60: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across changing to CE, fasten off CD only.





SIDE 4:

Row 61: Ch 2, turn. Working in the blo for this row only, work 1 dc in the blo of each of the next 18 sc, 1 hdc in the blo of the next sc.

Row 62: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in the next st, [fpsc, bpsc] 9 times, 1 sc in the next st.

Row 63: Ch 2, turn. Work 1 dc in each of the next 18 sc, 1 hdc in the next sc.

Rows 64 – 71: [Consecutively repeat Rows 62 and 63] 4 times.

Row 72: Repeat Row 62.

Row 73: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.


Fasten off.




MUSIC NOTE DESIGN:

The Music Note Design is worked on the surface of Side 1 using the Ssl st.


For each Ssl st indicated, first count the all stitches on the surface of the Side in the indicated direction then work the Ssl st. All stitches and directions are counted from the current location of the hook making sure the Side is positioned according to the initial positioning instructions. 


NOTE 1:

Using CE, beginning on the right bottom corner of Side 1, count 17 stitches up, then count 3 stitches to the left. Join yarn.

Sslst 1 – 7: Count 1 stitch down, work a ssl st
Ssl st 8: Count 1 stitch left and 1 stitch down, work a ssl st.

Note: after each Ssl st count instruction “…” means “work a ssl st.”

Ssl st 9: Count 1 stitch left…
Ssl st 10: Count 1 stitch left and 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 11: Count 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 12: Count 1 stitch right and 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 13: Count 1 stitch right…
Ssl st 14: Count 1 stitch right and 1 stitch down…

Fasten off.

NOTE 2:

Locate Note 1 joining, count 5 stitches to the left and 3 stitches down, join CE.

Ssl st 1 – 14: Repeat Ssl st 1 – 14 of Note 1.

Locate Note 2 joining, count 6 stitches to the left and 2 stitches down. Join CE.

BAR 1:

Locate the joining stitch on Note 1, join CE in the same stitch.

Locate Note 3 joining, join CE in the same stitch.

CORNERS:

1st Corner: Fold the Sides so that the beginning ch on Side 1 is lined up with the sc of Row 73 on Side 4 and the wrong sides are together. Working through BOTH the beginning ch and Row 73 together, join CE in the 1st set of stitches. Ch 1, continuing to work through BOTH together, sc in the same stitches as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 stitches across. Fasten off.

2nd Corner: Working in the unused front loops on Row 20, join CE in the 1st unused front loop. Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same stitch as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 unused front loops. Fasten off.

3rd Corner: With CE and working in the unused front loops on Row 40, repeat 2nd Corner.

4th Corner: With CE and working in the unused front loops on Row 60, repeat 2nd Corner.






TOP:

With CB ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.

Locate the right end of Row 3. Count 5 stitches to the left, join CA.

TOP JOINING:

The Top will be joined to the Sides by working through BOTH the edges of the Top and Sides together, using CE.

With wrong sides facing each other, line up Row 20 of Top with the ends of the rows of any Side section. Join yarn in the 1st sc, *work 20 sc evenly across. Insert hook in the same stitch as last stitch worked in of Top ONLY, insert hook into the end sc of corresponding Corner, pull up a loop through both stitches together to work a sc.**

[Continuing to work around the Top and Sides together, with wrong sides facing each other and joining the next edge of the Top to the next Side, repeat from * to **] 3 times. Join with a sl st in the 1st sc.

Fasten off.








BOTTOM:

With CC ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.


LOWER CASE “n”:


With the beginning ch towards you locate the right end of Row 4, count 6 stitches to the left, join CD.
