PATTERN NOTES:

The Sides are worked in one piece, with the Corners added on at the end. The Top and Bottom are worked separately and then crocheted onto the Sides.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

The chain-1 at the beginning of the rows DOES NOT count as a stitch.

When changing colors, work with current color until 1 stitch remains, change to new color on the last yarn over when working the remaining stitch. Work with changed color until another color change is indicated

      The chain-3 at the beginning of a row counts as the 1st double crochet, do not work in the 1st stitch of that row.

SIDES:

SIDE 1:

With CA ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs across.

Rows 2 – 19: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.


Row 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across changing to CB. Fasten off CA ONLY.




SIDE 2:

Row 21: (Right Side Row): Ch 1, turn. Working in blo for this row only, work 1 sc in blo of each of the 20 sc across.

NOTE: (cca) the dropped color unless otherwise indicated.

Row 22: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc changing to CC, 1 sc in each of the next 12 sc changing to CB, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc changing to CC.

Row 61: Ch 1, turn. Working in the blo for this row only, work 1 sc in the blo of each of the next 20 sc across.

Row 62: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Row 63: Ch 3, turn. Work 1 dc in the next sc, [Cst, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sc] 3 times.

Row 64: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sts across.

Rows 65 – 72: [Consecutively repeat Rows 63 and 64] 4 times.


Fasten off.



LEAF DESIGN:

The Leaf Design is worked on the surface of Side 1 using the Ssl st.


For each Ssl st indicated, first count the all stitches on the surface of the Side in the indicated direction then work the Ssl st. All stitches and directions are counted from the current location of the hook making sure the Side is positioned according to the initial positioning instructions. 


Work on Side 1 with the beginning chain towards the right and the last row worked on the left with the ends of the rows towards you.

LEAF:

Using CE, beginning on the right bottom corner of Side 1, count 15 stitches up, then count 5 stitches to the left. Join yarn.

Sslst 1 – 4: Count 1 stitch to the left, work a ssl st
Ssl st 5: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down, work a ssl st.

Note: after each Ssl st count instruction “…” means “work a ssl st.”

Ssl st 6 and 7: Count 1 stitch to the left…
Ssl st 8 and 9: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 10 and 11: Count 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 12: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 13 – 15: Count 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 16 and 17: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down…

VEIN:

Locate Leaf joining. Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down, join CE.

Ssl st 1 – 4: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 5: Count 1 stitch to the left…
Ssl st 6 – 9: Count 1 stitch to the left and 1 stitch down…

Fasten off.





CORNERS:

1st Corner: Fold the Sides so that the beginning ch on Side 1 is lined up with the sc of Row 72 on Side 4 and the wrong sides are together. Working through BOTH the beginning ch and Row 72 sc together, join CF in the 1st set of stitches. Ch 1, continuing to work through BOTH together, sc in the same stitches as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 stitches across. Fasten off.

2nd Corner: Working in the unused front loops on Row 20, join CF in the 1st unused front loop. Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same stitch as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 unused front loops. Fasten off.

3rd Corner: With CF and working in the unused front loops on Row 40, repeat 2nd Corner.


4th Corner: With CF and working in the unused front loops on Row 60, repeat 2nd Corner.





TOP:

With CB ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.


CAPITAL “L”




Locate the right end of Row 3. Count 6 stitches to the left, join CA.

Ssl st 1: Count 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 2 – 8: Count 1 stitch to the left…
Ssl st 9 – 21: Count 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 22: Count 1 stitch to the left…
Ssl st 23 – 36: Count 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 37 – 44: Count 1 stitch to the right…

Fasten off.

TOP JOINING:

The Top will be joined to the Sides by working through BOTH the edges of the Top and Sides together, using CF.

With wrong sides facing each other, line up Row 20 of Top with the ends of the rows of any Side section. Join yarn in the 1st sc, *work 20 sc evenly across. Insert hook in the same stitch as last stitch worked in of Top ONLY, insert hook into the end sc of corresponding Corner, pull up a loop through both stitches together to work a sc.**

[Continuing to work around the Top and Sides together, with wrong sides facing each other and joining the next edge of the Top to the next Side, repeat from * to **] 3 times. Join with a sl st in the 1st sc.

Fasten off.






BOTTOM:

With CC ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.


LOWER CASE “l”:


With the beginning ch towards you locate the right end of Row 3, count 10 stitches to the left, join CD.

Ssl st 1 – 14: Count 1 stitch up…
Ssl st 15: Count 1 stitch to the left…
Ssl st 16 – 29: Count 1 stitch down…
Ssl st 30: Count 1 stitch to the right…

Fasten off.


BOTTOM JOINING:

Stuff the Sides with fiberfill.

Join the Bottom to the Sides in the same way as the Top Joining.
