MATERIALS:

Red Heart Classic Worsted Weight Yarn:
·         33 yards Color A (#730/Grenadine)
·         39 yards Color B (#401/Nickel)
·         28 yards Color C (#579/Light Lavender)
·         28 yards Color D (#267/Olympic Blue)
·         39 yards Color E (#1625/Lime)

Crochet hook size G/6-4.00mm
Yarn Needle (for working in ends)
Polyester fiberfill.

GAUGE:
7 single crochet X 7 rows = 2” square.

PATTERN NOTES:

The Sides are worked in one piece, with the Corners added on at the end. The Top and Bottom are worked separately and then crocheted onto the Sides.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

The chain-1 at the beginning of the rows DOES NOT count as a stitch.

When changing colors, work with current color until 1 stitch remains, change to new color on the last yarn over when working the remaining stitch. Work with changed color until another color change is indicated.

SIDES:

SIDE 1:


NOTE: Side 1 is crocheted solid, the Diamond Design will be added later.

With CA ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs across.

Rows 2 – 19: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Row 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across changing to CB. Fasten off CA ONLY.




SIDE 2:

Note: (ccf) the dropped color after a color change unless otherwise instructed.

Row 21: (Right Side Row): Ch 1, turn. Working in blo for this row only, work 1 sc in blo of each of the next 10 sc changing to CC; work 1 sc in the blo of each of the next 10 sc.

Row 22: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CB; work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.

Row 23: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CC; work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.

Rows 24 – 29: [Consecutively repeat Rows 22 and 23] 3 times.

Row 30: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CB (cca), work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CC.

Row 31: Ch 1, turn. (Cca) CB, work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CB (ccf), work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.

Row 32: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CC; work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.

Row 33: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CB; work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.

Rows 34 – 39: [Consecutively repeat Rows 32 and 33] 3 times.

Row 40: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CC; work 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc changing to CD.

Fasten off CB and CC.







SIDE 3:

Row 41: Ch 1, turn. Working in blo for this row only, work 1 sc in blo of each of the 20 sc across.

Rows 42 – 59: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Row 60: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across changing to CE, fasten off CD only.





SIDE 4:


Row 61: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in the blo of each of the 20 sc across.

Row 62: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Row 63: Ch 1, turn. Work [1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, Lsc in the next sc] 6 times, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc.

Rows 64 – 79: [Consecutively repeat Rows 62 and 63] 8 times.
Row 80: Ch 1, turn.  Work 1 sc in each of the next 20 sc.


Fasten off.






DIAMOND DESIGN:

The Diamond Design is worked on the surface of Side 1 using the Ssl st.


For each Ssl st indicated, first count the all stitches on the surface of the Side in the indicated direction then work the Ssl st. All stitches and directions are counted from the current location of the hook making sure the Side is positioned according to the initial positioning instructions. 

Work on Side 1 with the beginning chain towards the right and the last row worked on the left with the ends of the rows towards you.

OUTLINE:

Using CE, beginning on the right bottom corner of Side 1, count 2 stitches up, then count 10 stitches to the left. Join yarn.

Sslst 1 – 2: Count 1 stitch to the right and 1 stitch up, work a ssl st
Ssl st 3: Count 1 stitch up, work a ssl st.

Note: after each Ssl st count instruction “…” means “work a ssl st.”

CORNERS:

1st Corner: Fold the Sides so that the beginning ch on Side 1 is lined up with the sc of Row 80 on Side 4 and the wrong sides are together. Working through BOTH the beginning ch and Row 80 together, join CE in the 1st set of stitches. Ch 1, continuing to work through BOTH together, sc in the same stitches as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 stitches across. Fasten off.

2nd Corner: Working in the unused front loops on Row 20, join CE in the 1st unused front loop. Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same stitch as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 19 unused front loops. Fasten off.

3rd Corner: With CE and working in the unused front loops on Row 40, repeat 2nd Corner.

4th Corner: With CE and working in the unused front loops on Row 60, repeat 2nd Corner.





TOP:

With CB ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.

TOP JOINING:

The Top will be joined to the Sides by working through BOTH the edges of the Top and Sides together, using CE.

With wrong sides facing each other, line up Row 20 of Top with the ends of the rows of any Side section. Join yarn in the 1st sc, *work 20 sc evenly across. Insert hook in the same stitch as last stitch worked in of Top ONLY, insert hook into the end sc of corresponding Corner, pull up a loop through both stitches together to work a sc.**

[Continuing to work around the Top and Sides together, with wrong sides facing each other and joining the next edge of the Top to the next Side, repeat from * to **] 3 times. Join with a sl st in the 1st sc.

Fasten off.




BOTTOM:

With CC ch 21.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next 19 chs.

Rows 2 – 20: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of the 20 sc across.

Fasten off.
